Kern County Schools Fuel/Opacity Tests

Cleaning Tomorrow’s Air Today

Background
In October 2008 Viscon™ California completed a 6 month test with the Kern County Superintendent of Schools (KCSOS) diesel bus fleet. Viscon™ California reported a reduction in fuel consumption from the buses average baseline by 9%. KCSOS has since issued an Open Purchase Order for use of Viscon in its school bus fleet.

Smoke Opacity Results
In August 2009, Viscon California requested copies of KCSOS’ smoke opacity tests performed in 2007 (without Viscon), 2008, and 2009 (with Viscon). Testing was conducted by KCSOS staff using Red Mountain Engineering’s Smoke Check 1667 equipment – SAE J1667 compliant protocol. The data provided contained 16 buses with detailed test results. The table below illustrates the smoke opacity reductions from year-to-year as a result of using Viscon.

% Change From 2007 to 2008 -36%

% Change From 2008 to 2009 -31%
